When to call 911

Know the common heart attack warning signs listed below. Note that not everyone experiences all of these symptoms and they may come and go. However, all of the following symptoms have been linked to heart attacks and other medical emergencies. If you think you may be having a heart attack, call 911 immediately. Every second counts.

  • a feeling of heaviness or pressure in the chest
  • abdominal, neck, arm and/or jaw pain
  • pain and/or deep aching between the shoulder blades
  • breathlessness
  • clamminess
  • unexplained sweating
  • unexplained dizziness, feeling lightheaded, blacking out
  • unexplained anxiety
  • edema (swelling of the ankles or lower legs)
  • fluttering, rapid heart beats, palpitations
  • unexplained nausea
  • indigestion or gas-like pain
