Locate the top of your hipbone; place the tape measure evenly around your bare abdomen. Make sure the tape measure is snug around your waist but not pulled tightly into your skin. To ensure accuracy, measure after breathing out normally; do not “suck in” your stomach when measuring.
Excess abdominal fat is good indicator of increasing risk factors for heart disease and other chronic diseases.
This risk increases with a waist measurement of over 40 inches for men and over 35 inches for women.
